Principal Data Scientist (Marketplace Risk)

Location: Full-time onsite role in Bellevue, Washington, United States; remote and hybrid options are not available.

What you will do

• Develop, test, deploy, and scale advanced machine learning models and data-driven solutions for complex business requirements.
• Analyze complex business problems, identify root causes, and recommend technology-focused approaches.
• Identify, assess, and validate data sources for quality and relevance in analytical modeling.
• Lead feature engineering, exploratory data analysis, model evaluation, and optimization of model performance and robustness.
• Translate stakeholder needs into scalable data science strategies and measurable outcomes while consulting with product and business stakeholders.
• Mentor team members, drive thought leadership, and integrate emerging machine learning trends and automation tools.

Requirements

• PhD in Computer Science or a related field plus 10 years of relevant data science experience, or a master’s degree in a related field plus 12 years of relevant data science experience.
• Alternatively, a bachelor’s degree in Statistics, Economics, Analytics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field plus 5 years of analytics-related experience; a master’s degree in one of these fields plus 3 years of analytics-related experience; or 7 years of experience in an analytics or related field.
• Experience architecting large-scale machine learning systems.
• Deep knowledge of machine learning algorithms, deep learning, and reinforcement learning.
• Experience applying state-of-the-art agentic, generative AI, supervised, and unsupervised machine learning algorithms to real-world problems.
• Proficiency in Python and AWS SageMaker for scalable model development and deployment.
• Strong statistical analysis and exploratory data analysis skills, including interpreting complex datasets.
• Ability to translate business requirements into data-driven strategies and measurable outcomes, manage data ecosystems, and assess data quality.
• Leadership, mentoring, communication, and stakeholder-influence skills.

Nice to have

• Experience in ecommerce and fraud or risk domains.
• Successful data science work on platforms such as Kaggle.
• PhD in Machine Learning, Computer Science, Information Technology, Operations Research, Statistics, Applied Mathematics, or Econometrics.
• Publications or active peer review in related journals or conferences.
• Successful completion of assessments in Python, Spark, Scala, or R.
• Experience with open-source frameworks such as scikit-learn, TensorFlow, or Torch.
• Knowledge of WCAG 2.2 AA, assistive technologies, and digital accessibility best practices.
