TL;DR
Robotics Software Engineer, Mission Evaluation & Fine-Tuning (Robotics/AI): Building evaluation loops, datasets, regression suites, and fine-tuning workflows for robotic inspection behavior with an accent on field evidence, vision and vision-language models, and release-level metrics. Focus on diagnosing mission failures across navigation, localization, perception, and behavior, designing statistically rigorous experiments, and moving robot evidence into training sets and dashboards.

Location: Irvine, California, United States; on-site

Company

hirify.global is hiring for its Engineering – Mission, Interaction & Intelligence department.

What you will do

  • Own the end-to-end inspection behavior success metric.
  • Build golden-labeled datasets, seeded-fault runs, and regression suites at feature, system, and release levels to gate release candidates.
  • Turn field evidence into training and evaluation sets and connect technical performance to customer-measured metrics.
  • Triage mission logs and make failures legible by attributing misses to navigation, localization, perception, or behavior.
  • Route diagnosed failures to the owning team with supporting evidence.

Requirements

  • MS in computer science, robotics, aerospace engineering, or a related field, plus 3+ years of experience in robotics or ML engineering.
  • Strong Python and working C++ skills.
  • Comfort working with ROS 2 logs, bags, and replay tooling.
  • Experience evaluating and fine-tuning vision or vision-language models using PyTorch, LoRA, or similar approaches.
  • Experience building datasets and metrics for vision or vision-language models.
  • Statistical rigor, including distinguishing benchmark numbers from field results and designing experiments that separate them.
  • Data pipeline skills for moving evidence from robots to training sets and dashboards.

Nice to have

  • Authorship or maintenance of a robotics benchmark, evaluation suite, or challenge.
  • Simulation-based evaluation and sim-to-real validation experience.
  • MLOps experience for on-edge models, including quantization, versioning, and fleet rollout.
  • Industrial inspection, gauge reading, or anomaly detection experience.

Culture & Benefits

  • Full-time, on-site work in Irvine, California.
