TL;DR
Master Thesis - Design and Construction of an Induction-Heating Test Rig for Thermomechanical Component Testing (Induction Heating): Designing and constructing a modular induction-heating test rig for thermomechanical testing of burners, combustor components, and other hot-path components with an accent on experimental rig development, instrumentation, and coupled electromagnetic, thermal, and structural simulations. Focus on dimensioning the rig, predicting temperature, deformation, stress, and strain, and correlating measurements with numerical predictions.
Location: Finspång, Östergötland County, Sweden
Company
hirify.global develops energy systems and technologies for power generation, service, decarbonization, modernization, and digitalization.
What you will do
Identify representative burner or combustor components, relevant load cases, and measurable laboratory target quantities.
Develop a modular test-rig concept with an induction-heating system, interchangeable water-cooled coils, cooling circuit, non-magnetic fixtures, instrumentation, guarding, and safety interlocks.
Prepare a bill of materials, supplier-based cost estimate, and make-or-buy assessment.
Develop coupled electromagnetic, transient thermal, and structural simulations to predict temperatures, deformation, stress, and strain.
If time and equipment permit, construct and commission a demonstrator and correlate measurements with numerical predictions.
Requirements
Currently enrolled in a master’s program in mechanical engineering, applied physics, electrical engineering, aerospace engineering, or a related field.
Strong interest in experimental mechanics, heat transfer, electromagnetics, test-rig development, or numerical simulation.
Practical ability and motivation to work with laboratory equipment, instrumentation, mechanical design, and safety requirements.
Good problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills, plus creativity and the ability to work independently.
Nice to have
Experience with CAD and finite element analysis.
Culture & Benefits
Support from experienced combustion and simulation engineers.
Collaboration with turbine and compressor specialists and access to technical expertise within the team.
Employment benefits include reduced working hours, advance vacation, and a health care allowance.
Potential possibility of a flexible working place.
Hiring process
Ongoing selection is applied, and the role may be filled before the application deadline.
Applications are accepted until 9 November 2025.
