Senior Engineer (PHP)

Location: Bowen Hills, Brisbane, Australia. Hybrid, primarily office-based with flexibility.

Trilogy Care uses technology to coordinate government-funded aged care services and connect older Australians with appropriate support.

What you will do

• Own complex backend features end to end, from understanding stakeholder needs through design, implementation, testing, deployment, and monitoring.
• Develop the modular monolith supporting care plans, budgets, government funding claims, supplier management, billing, incidents, and compliance.
• Design architectural approaches, write ADRs, and consider domain boundaries and cross-module impacts.
• Build REST APIs and integrations with mobile applications, external systems, Services Australia, and PRODA.
• Use Claude Code and other AI-assisted development tools daily for coding, debugging, testing, and documentation.
• Raise engineering standards through code reviews, pairing, mentoring, and technical leadership within the squad.

Requirements

• Deep production experience with PHP and a server-side MVC framework such as Laravel, Symfony, Ruby on Rails, or Django.
• Experience designing domain-driven or modular architectures beyond basic MVC applications.
• Strong REST API design, relational database design and performance, production migrations, and data integrity experience.
• Regular use of automated testing and experience with tools such as Pest, PHPUnit, RSpec, or Minitest.
• Daily practical experience with AI-assisted development tools such as Claude Code, Cursor, or Copilot.
• Must have the right to work in Australia and complete the required pre-employment checks.

Nice to have

• Production experience with Laravel.
• Experience in healthcare, aged care, government, or another regulated environment.
• Exposure to Vue, TypeScript, Inertia.js, AWS, Docker, CI/CD, GitHub Actions, or WCAG 2.2.
