Staff Application Security Engineer (AI)

Location: Remote, United States

Salary: $225,400–$281,800 USD annually in total cash compensation, including annual base salary and applicable bonus.

What you will do

• Lead multi-year application security strategy and turn it into cross-team initiatives aligned with Security department goals.
• Shape Engineering, Product, Platform, and Data roadmaps so security work is planned early.
• Define secure design, code review, risk modeling, and AI-generated code standards.
• Lead security architecture reviews and threat modeling for high-scale, multi-team systems, including AI and agent features.
• Build secure-by-default components for authorization, OAuth, token handling, and SSRF-safe HTTP communication.
• Drive vulnerability management, exploit development, variant analysis, remediation, and AI-assisted AppSec automation.

Requirements

• Track record of leading application security strategy across multiple engineering teams, typically with 10+ years of software engineering or application security experience.
• Expertise in code review, penetration testing, exploit development, secure architecture, and authentication and authorization patterns.
• Strong software development skills with the ability to ship production code; Ruby and Ruby on Rails experience is highly valuable.
• Strong Linux and cloud fundamentals, ideally including GCP and Kubernetes; Python experience is a plus.
• Hands-on experience securing AI-powered systems or agent features.
• Ability to make complex risk decisions and align technical and non-technical leaders without formal authority.

Nice to have

• Experience leading security for AI-native products, internal agents, or AI-assisted engineering workflows at scale.
• Experience building or scaling security champions or developer enablement programs.
• Public security work, including CVEs, research, talks, or open-source tools, or certifications such as OSCP or OSWE.
