TL;DR
Research Associate in EPR and Magnetism of Molecular Spin Qubits (EPR spectroscopy/magnetometry): Characterising the electronic structure and coherence properties of d-block metal complexes using pulse EPR, magnetometry, and related methods with an accent on molecular spin qubits and paramagnetic complexes. Focus on managing spectroscopy and magnetism projects, supervising junior researchers, coordinating international collaborations, and presenting findings at conferences.
Location: Manchester, Greater Manchester, United Kingdom; Oxford Road
Salary: £37,694–£46,049 per annum, depending on relevant experience
Company
The hirify.global is a research and education institution with specialist facilities for electron paramagnetic resonance, spectroscopy, magnetometry, and quantum information science.
What you will do
Characterise the electronic structure and coherence properties of transition-metal molecular spin qubits and d-block metal complexes.
Perform pulse and continuous-wave EPR, rapid-scan and light-induced EPR, SQUID magnetometry, and related measurements.
Analyse spectroscopy and magnetic data using appropriate characterisation techniques and calculations.
Supervise PhD and undergraduate researchers working on spectroscopy and magnetism projects.
Coordinate research activities with collaborating groups at the University of Rhode Island and Brown University.
Organise group meetings, contribute to research coordination, and present findings at international conferences.
Requirements
PhD, or expected PhD, in chemistry, physics, or a closely related field.
Experience performing advanced spectroscopic and/or magnetic measurements.
Ability to work independently, manage research projects, and supervise junior researchers.
Experience with EPR spectroscopy, air-sensitive samples, glove boxes, d/f-block chemistry, characterisation techniques, and calculations is highly desirable.
Availability to work at the Manchester, Oxford Road location in the United Kingdom.
Nice to have
Experience with highly air-sensitive samples and glove-box techniques.
Experience in d/f-block chemistry and a range of spectroscopy, magnetism, and computational methods.
Culture & Benefits
Access to the UK National EPR Facility and advanced 1–34 GHz cw and pulse EPR instrumentation, rapid-scan EPR, light-induced EPR, and SQUID magnetometry.
Collaboration across synthesis, measurements, calculations, and international research groups.
Flexible working arrangements, family-friendly policies, and support for work-life balance.
Employer pension contribution and 29 days of annual leave plus bank holidays and Christmas closure.
Ride-to-work and electric-vehicle car schemes.
