TL;DR
High Voltage Primary Engineer (HVDC/Substation Design): Designing high-voltage substations and HVDC converter stations with an accent on primary layouts, electrical clearances, equipment selection, and earthing and lightning protection systems. Focus on integrating 2D/3D engineering models, performing electrical and mechanical calculations, coordinating multidisciplinary interfaces, and ensuring compliance with IEC, IEEE, DIN, and EN standards.

Location: Bucharest, Romania; hybrid remote/office

What you will do

  • Design physical layouts, drawings, and installation details for high-voltage substations, especially HVDC converter stations.
  • Develop and integrate primary layouts and equipment designs using 2D/3D engineering and CAD software.
  • Perform electrical and mechanical calculations covering clearances, conductor loading, busbar sizing, support structures, and installation constraints.
  • Prepare earthing, lightning protection, equipment specifications, data sheets, bills of materials, and procurement documentation.
  • Coordinate with clients, civil engineering teams, suppliers, and other project interfaces while monitoring deliverables, budgets, and schedules.
  • Support design reviews, construction and commissioning activities, and supplier documentation, manufacturing, and testing processes.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Professional design experience in the electrical transmission and distribution industry.
  • Expertise in high-voltage substation layout design, air-clearance requirements, earthing, lightning protection, and primary equipment selection.
  • Hands-on experience with AutoCAD, Inventor, Navisworks, and Primtech, plus advanced Microsoft Office skills and familiarity with Gantt chart management.
  • Knowledge of DIN, EN, IEC, and IEEE standards, engineering documentation quality assurance, and customer-requirement management.
  • Strong collaboration and communication skills for working with international teams and project stakeholders.
