Staff Thermal Engineer (ANSYS Icepak)

Location: Full-time, on-site in El Segundo, California, United States

Salary: $150,000–$230,000 base compensation per year, excluding bonuses, equity, and benefits.

What you will do

• Perform hand calculations and detailed thermal analyses of electronic components, circuit card assemblies, and electronic enclosures.
• Develop ANSYS Icepak models for electronics cooling, internal air flow, and liquid coolant flow.
• Analyze cabinets, coldplates, heat exchangers, forced-air systems, flow distribution, pressure drop, fan performance, and thermal margins.
• Provide thermal design guidance to electrical and mechanical designers and identify risks with multidisciplinary teams.
• Plan and support thermal testing, reduce test data, and correlate thermal models with test results.
• Support board and system bring-up, qualification, troubleshooting, production issues, design reviews, and technical documentation.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related STEM field and 7+ years of relevant experience.
• Hands-on experience with electronics thermal analysis using ANSYS Icepak.
• Strong knowledge of heat transfer, thermodynamics, and fluid mechanics.
• Experience with liquid-cooled coldplates, heat exchangers, forced-air cooling, flow distribution, pressure-drop analysis, and fan performance.
• Ability to perform engineering hand calculations, determine when detailed simulation is needed, communicate technical results, and work independently across engineering disciplines.
• Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. security clearance.

Nice to have

• Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
• Experience with Macroflow, STAR-CCM+, NX thermal, or other thermal and CFD software.
• Experience planning thermal tests, reducing test data, or correlating analysis models.
• Experience with aerospace, defense, or other high-reliability electronic systems.
• Familiarity with MIL-STD-810, RTCA/DO-160, or VITA-48.
