Principal Technical Program Manager, Cyber Defense

Location: Chicago, Illinois. Hybrid position requiring in-person work at an assigned hirify.global office at least two days per week.

Salary: $168,750–$281,250 annually.

What you will do

• Build a Cyber Defense learning system connecting incidents, detections, exercises, and remediation through a closed feedback loop.
• Establish post-incident review processes, facilitate blameless reviews, track remediation actions, and identify systemic risks.
• Define operational metrics for detection effectiveness, coverage, response quality, response speed, and learning throughput.
• Operate the Detection Council by managing agendas, decision records, prioritization, accountability, and follow-through.
• Lead cross-functional Cyber Defense programs from planning through execution, including risk, dependencies, issue resolution, and escalation.
• Prepare executive communications, operating reviews, decision materials, and narratives about Cyber Defense maturity and impact.

Requirements

• 10+ years of experience in Technical Program Management, Security Operations, or Engineering Program Management.
• Experience with Detection and Response, Security Operations, Reliability, or comparable technical teams.
• Ability to build operating systems involving leadership cadences, metrics, feedback loops, decision forums, action tracking, and organizational learning.
• Strong executive communication, facilitation, and narrative-development skills.
• Advanced program management capabilities covering planning, dependency management, risk tracking, escalation, and cross-functional execution.
• Technical fluency for effective collaboration with Cyber Defense, SOC, Detection Engineering, and Reliability stakeholders.

Nice to have

• Direct experience in Cyber Defense, a Security Operations Center, Detection Engineering, or Detection and Response.
• Experience in business operations, executive program management, or a leadership-adjacent role supporting a senior technical or security executive.
• Experience building systemic learning practices and operating leadership councils or decision forums.
• Experience communicating organizational wins, maturity improvements, and operational impact to executive audiences.
