Intern - Nuclear Engineer - Summer 2027 (Fusion Energy)

Location: On-site in Devens, Massachusetts, United States

Salary: $25–$38 per hour, based on current year in school. BS interns: $25–$32 per hour; MS/PhD interns: $35–$38 per hour.

What you will do

• Perform neutronics analyses, including energy deposition in delicate materials and shielding sensitivity studies for diagnostic design.
• Carry out neutronics calculations covering heating, activation, flux, and dose.
• Support the design and operation of SPARC and the scoping of ARC.
• Develop computational methods and workflows for different types of neutronics analyses.
• Collaborate with engineers on the Nuclear Engineering team.

Requirements

• Currently enrolled in an engineering degree program with a focus in Nuclear Engineering.
• Must complete a Neutron Transport, Neutronics, or Reactor Theory course before the internship begins.
• Experience with MCNP or OpenMC.
• Strong communication skills, teamwork, self-motivation, and problem-solving abilities.
• Must be authorized to work in the United States for any employer.
• Must be willing to work on-site and occasionally travel, work nights or weekends, or be on call.

Nice to have

• Experience with CAD, Python, C++, or neutronics methods such as Monte Carlo or deterministic methods.
