Principal Scientist, Oncology R&D

Location: Onsite in San Diego, CA, United States

Annualized base salary: $134,400–$223,800, plus bonus eligibility.

What you will do

• Lead the design, development, validation, and transfer of gene expression and next-generation sequencing laboratory-developed tests for patient testing in a CLIA laboratory.
• Drive clinical research studies involving large patient cohorts to validate proprietary biomarkers and support product development.
• Design analytical and clinical validation studies and prepare documentation for regulatory submissions.
• Lead exploratory research and investigational studies with clinical development teams, external investigators, and scientific partners.
• Provide technical guidance to Quality, Regulatory, Clinical, and CLIA teams on protocols, assay modifications, change controls, and compliance.
• Lead multidisciplinary programs, mitigate technical risks, establish new technologies and workflows, and mentor junior scientific and laboratory personnel.

Requirements

• Ph.D. in Molecular Biology, Genomics, Cancer Biology, Biomedical Sciences, or a related discipline, with 5+ years of relevant industry experience.
• Deep expertise in molecular diagnostics, biomarker discovery, assay development, next-generation sequencing, gene expression technologies, and oncology applications.
• Extensive experience developing laboratory-developed tests from feasibility assessment through validation, transfer, and launch.
• Strong knowledge of CLIA, CAP, NYS/CLEP, and related molecular diagnostic testing requirements.
• Experience leading complex scientific programs, designing experiments, interpreting complex datasets, and making technical decisions.
• Strong project leadership, communication, technical writing, presentation, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
