RF Engineer (Aerospace)

Salary: $170,000–$202,000 annually

What you will do

• Own the selection, development, integration, and flight support of RF communications systems and hardware for launch vehicles and spacecraft.
• Define RF requirements, maintain telemetry and command link budgets, and evaluate antennas, radios, RF components, losses, interference, and ground-station compatibility across UHF through Ka-band.
• Lead RF hardware bring-up, characterization, environmental qualification, vehicle avionics integration, and supplier issue resolution.
• Develop and execute functional, vibration, shock, thermal, thermal-vacuum, and EMI/EMC qualification and acceptance testing.
• Build RF test benches, fixtures, cabling, calibration methods, and test automation with the test team.
• Investigate RF anomalies, support flight operations, coordinate spectrum compatibility testing, and prepare technical inputs for FCC licensing.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in electrical, computer, or aerospace engineering, physics, or a related field.
• 8+ years of experience developing or integrating RF communications systems for space applications, including hardware verification and environmental qualification.
• Experience translating communications requirements into radio and antenna selections, link budgets, and verification plans.
• Proficiency with vector network analyzers, spectrum or signal analyzers, signal generators, power meters, and oscilloscopes.
• Working knowledge of digital communications, modulation, RF measurement methods, and EMI/EMC mitigation.
• Ability to use Python or MATLAB for test support and data analysis and collaborate with suppliers and multidisciplinary engineering teams.

Nice to have

• Experience with flight radios, ground-station testing, on-orbit operations, CCSDS protocols, software-defined radio interfaces, or satellite modulation and coding schemes.
• Experience automating RF instruments with SCPI or VISA and working in Linux environments.
• Experience with GEVS, MIL-STD-1540, SMC-S-016, ECSS, HFSS, FEKO, ADS, or AWR.
