Head of Analytical Development (mRNA)

Location: 100% onsite in Norwood, Massachusetts, United States. Willingness to relocate to or be based in the Norwood area is required.

Salary: $272,200–$490,100 per year, with potential eligibility for bonus, incentive compensation, or equity.

What you will do

• Lead the Analytical Development organization, setting its vision, operating model, governance, technical standards, resource strategy, and talent agenda.
• Own analytical development strategy across early development, late-stage development, commercialization, and post-approval lifecycle management.
• Direct method development, product characterization, microbiology, potency and bioassay development, clinical stability, technical transfer, and analytical regulatory execution.
• Establish control strategies covering specifications, critical quality attributes, comparability, reference materials, impurities, shelf life, and analytical risk management.
• Partner with CMC, Process Development, QC, Quality, Manufacturing, Regulatory, Supply Chain, and external CDMO and testing networks.
• Build leadership depth, manage resources and budgets, represent hirify.global externally, and advance automation, digital tools, data science, and AI-enabled analytical workflows.

Requirements

• Ph.D. in Analytical Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, Biochemistry, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Biochemical Engineering, or a related scientific discipline.
• 18+ years of relevant industry experience, including significant executive-level leadership in analytical development for biologics, vaccines, nucleic-acid-based medicines, or other advanced therapeutic modalities.
• Experience leading multidisciplinary technical organizations and influencing matrixed CMC organizations.
• Demonstrated expertise in analytical strategy, method development, product characterization, technical transfer, regulatory support, external partner oversight, and lifecycle management.
• Must be based in or willing to relocate to the Norwood, Massachusetts area and work onsite.
• Strong communication, stakeholder management, scientific leadership, organizational influence, and talent development skills.

Nice to have

• Deep expertise in nucleic acid analytics, LNP and particle characterization, bioassays, potency, impurity characterization, reference materials, and emerging analytical technologies.
• Experience leading analytical strategy for IND/IMPD and BLA/MAA submissions, health authority interactions, and post-approval lifecycle management.
• External scientific presence through conferences, regulatory workshops, technical forums, or industry consortia.
• Experience implementing automation, digital systems, data science, AI-enabled workflows, and high-throughput analytical approaches.
