Software Engineer, Non-Realtime Controllers (Quantum Computing)

What you will do

• Own groups of hardware device controllers from API design and implementation through rollout and operational health.
• Build and operate software controlling supporting quantum-computer hardware, including compressors, lasers, wavemeters, and sensors.
• Improve service robustness against instrument failures through health checks, observability, and alerting.
• Bring devices onto the current controller framework and deploy changes across the fleet without disrupting running experiments.
• Collaborate with software engineering, systems, and quantum science teams to integrate services into the wider architecture.

Requirements

• Strong programming skills in one or more systems programming languages and willingness to work in a Rust codebase.
• Hands-on experience interfacing with hardware instruments and communication protocols such as SCPI, serial, TCP/IP, or USB.
• Experience making software reliable against unstable external dependencies and owning production behavior beyond test correctness.
• Excellent communication skills across software and other technical disciplines.
• Previous quantum-systems experience is not required.
