Spring 2027: Mechanical Systems Engineering Co-op, Ninja (January to June)

Location: Needham, MA, United States; full-time onsite, 5 days per week. No relocation or housing assistance is provided.

Hourly salary: $27–$40 USD.

What you will do

• Develop, evaluate, and prototype mechanical system concepts and architectures for consumer products.
• Collaborate with mechanical, electrical, and manufacturing engineers, industrial designers, and product managers.
• Build, test, and iterate prototypes, subsystems, and laboratory rigs for performance, durability, and reliability.
• Analyze test data, identify root causes, and recommend system- and component-level design improvements.
• Support CAD modeling, system layouts, feasibility studies, technical documentation, design reviews, and failure analysis.
• Take ownership of increasingly complex tasks involving mechanisms, materials, tolerances, manufacturing processes, and electromechanical systems.

Requirements

• Must be able to work 40 hours per week onsite in Needham, MA, 5 days per week.
• Currently pursuing a related bachelor's or master's degree, or graduated from one within the past year.
• Strong foundation in mechanical engineering and physics, including thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, and mechanical design.
• Experience with CAD software such as SolidWorks or Creo.
• Hands-on experience building and modifying plastic and metal prototypes using basic machine shop tools.
• Ability to perform experimental testing, communicate technical concepts clearly, and independently validate practical engineering solutions.

Nice to have

• Experience with rapid prototyping methods such as 3D printing and laser cutting.
• Familiarity with motors, sensors, heaters, PCBAs, and other basic electromechanical components.
• Laboratory, workshop, or academic experimental testing experience.
