AI Learning Systems Engineer

Location: 100% remote within the Continental United States

What you will do

• Design, train, and deploy reinforcement learning systems for sequential decision-making in real and simulated environments.
• Develop and maintain simulation environments, reward functions, shaping strategies, and large-scale experience collection systems.
• Implement and evaluate policy-gradient, actor-critic, off-policy, offline RL, imitation learning, RLHF, and DPO techniques.
• Build distributed RL training infrastructure, including experience collection, replay systems, GPU-cluster training, and sample-efficiency improvements.
• Design evaluation protocols with out-of-distribution and adversarial test cases, plus safety mechanisms such as constraint enforcement and human oversight.
• Monitor production policies and models for drift, regressions, and unintended behavior, and create alerting and dashboards to surface issues.

Requirements

• Must work as a full-time W2 employee in the Continental United States.
• No new H1B sponsorship is available; valid H1B visa holders requiring a transfer may apply.
• Master’s or PhD in Computer Science, Machine Learning, or a related field, or equivalent applied experience.
• Six or more years of combined reinforcement learning research and engineering experience.
• Strong proficiency in Python, modern deep learning frameworks, probability, optimization, and RL theory.
• Hands-on experience with RL libraries or in-house RL stacks, simulation environments, reward tuning, GPU clusters, and shipping or publishing impactful RL work.

Nice to have

• Experience with RLHF for large language models, multi-agent RL, or hierarchical RL.
• Exposure to robotics, control systems, or autonomous driving.
• Publications in reinforcement learning or related research venues.
• Open-source contributions to RL libraries or environments.
