Senior Systems Engineer (Browser Isolation)

Location: Hybrid in Austin, Texas, Lisbon, Portugal, or London, United Kingdom. The role may require on-call flexibility outside standard working hours and an in-person interview at a hirify.global office or hub during the offer stage.

Salary: €66,000–€91,000 annual salary for Portugal-based hires.

What you will do

• Lead complex, multi-component systems initiatives from problem definition and design through staged rollout and measurable production results.
• Develop Chromium-based C++ browser changes and distributed services supporting remote browsing using Go, Rust, and TypeScript.
• Make architectural trade-offs across latency, availability, resource efficiency, security boundaries, and operational complexity.
• Investigate cross-layer failures and performance bottlenecks across browsers, hosts, networks, and control planes.
• Improve resilience, capacity management, observability, release safety, and production incident response.
• Coordinate partner teams, mentor engineers, and raise the quality of design, code review, testing, documentation, and operational practices.

Requirements

• Strong production C++ experience, including memory and resource ownership, concurrency, and debugging in substantial codebases.
• Experience leading complex systems or distributed-service improvements from unclear problems to reliable production outcomes.
• Strong Linux/UNIX and networking fundamentals, including profiling and operational diagnosis of correctness, latency, and resource issues.
• Experience designing and operating distributed systems, including service boundaries, partitioning, consistency, retries, backpressure, capacity, and recovery from partial failures.
• Experience with safe rollout and recovery strategies, production software lifecycle management, and clear communication of technical trade-offs.
• Willingness to work across C++, Rust, Go, and TypeScript and participate in the production on-call rotation.

Nice to have

• Experience with browser engines, Chromium, browser sandboxing, or security-sensitive systems.
• Background in low-latency streaming, graphics, remote computing, or real-time systems.
• Experience with Nomad, Kubernetes, service discovery, Rust, Go, TypeScript, WebRTC, Skia, WebAssembly, or WebGL.
• Experience with observability, capacity planning, incident response, or build and release infrastructure.
