Senior Design and Test Engineer (Aerospace)

Location: Onsite at NASA Ames Research Center in Moffett Field, California, United States; company location listed as Mountain View, California.

Salary: $100–$120 per hour

What you will do

• Assemble a new arc jet probe and sensor system from NASA subject-matter-expert designs.
• Define test objectives and measurement requirements for evaluating probe performance.
• Develop detailed arc jet test plans covering procedures, instrumentation, verification, and qualification criteria.
• Conduct testing at the NASA Ames Arc Jet Facility to validate design requirements.
• Analyze test results and present formal reviews to Entry Systems Division leadership.
• Prepare technical documentation supporting qualification, adoption, and long-term sustainment for future missions.

Requirements

• Knowledge of thermal protection systems, hypersonic environments, or high-temperature material testing.
• Experience with instrumentation design, flight-like probe or sensor assembly, or complex test system integration.
• Ability to communicate technical findings through reports, reviews, and technical documentation.
• Ability to pass a Federal Background Check
• Part-time availability and travel as needed

Nice to have

• Experience with test planning, experimental validation, or arc jet and ground test facilities.
• Experience in aerospace, R&D, or government facility environments.
• Familiarity with thermal protection system components or arc jet facility hardware.
• Experience in sensor design and testing.
