Data Scientist

Location: London, United Kingdom. Hybrid working policy. For roles located in the UK, applicants must have the right to work in the UK or be eligible for visa sponsorship, and must be physically present in the country by their first day or able to relocate beforehand. What you will do

• Define analytical problems, success measures, data needs, and suitable approaches with subject matter experts and clients.
• Prepare and analyse data and develop or evaluate statistical, forecasting, machine learning, and language-model prototypes.
• Present findings, assumptions, limitations, and recommendations to technical and nontechnical audiences.
• Collaborate across technical disciplines to document work, ensure reproducibility, and develop prototypes into reliable solutions.
• Contribute technical estimates and evidence to proposals while managing several concurrent client projects.
• Share reusable methods and approaches with the wider data science team.

Requirements

• Hands-on Python experience for data analysis and modelling, including common data and machine learning libraries.
• Ability to use SQL to extract, join, and validate data.
• Strong grounding in statistics and machine learning, including regression or classification, forecasting, validation, baselines, and performance measures.
• Practical experience using large language models, including prompting, evidence-based output checking, and assessing privacy, accuracy, and reliability risks.
• Experience preparing imperfect data, building reproducible analyses, writing maintainable code, using version control, and testing.
• Clear written and spoken English, stakeholder engagement skills, and a relevant quantitative degree or equivalent practical experience.

Nice to have

• Experience in public policy, government, research, or evaluation.
• Consulting or client-facing delivery experience and familiarity with cloud platforms, APIs, data pipelines, or deployment.
• Experience building AI agents or applications that connect language models to data and tools, including retrieval-based systems.
