TL;DR
Senior Mobile Engineer (React Native) (geospatial/defense): Building AirSpot, a production mobile application for reporting drone sightings and delivering real-time airspace intelligence with an accent on React Native architecture, geospatial data, offline experiences, and mobile reliability. Focus on designing scalable mobile systems, optimizing performance and battery usage, and delivering secure production releases for public safety and national security use cases.
Location: Remote-first across Germany, with regular team gatherings in Berlin, Dresden, and other off-site locations.

What you will do
- Build and ship production mobile features for AirSpot using React Native, Expo, TypeScript, and Expo Router.
- Own architecture across state management, data fetching, offline behavior, navigation, and the mobile build and release pipeline.
- Develop real-time geospatial experiences with MapLibre, including location tracking and map interactions.
- Improve startup time, animations, lists, memory usage, battery consumption, reliability, and crash rates.
- Establish automated testing with Jest, React Native Testing Library, and Maestro.
- Manage production delivery with EAS and contribute to backend APIs and engineering standards.
Requirements
- Several years of professional software engineering experience, including at least two production React Native applications with real users.
- Strong React Native, TypeScript, and Expo experience, including Fabric, TurboModules, and Bridgeless.
- Experience with mobile performance, testing, observability, production releases, and mapping technologies such as MapLibre, Mapbox, or Google Maps.
- Experience owning architecture or major technical decisions and working independently in a small team.
- University-level education in computer science, software engineering, or a related technical field.
- Eligible to work in Germany and, where required, for EU/NATO security clearance.
Nice to have
- Node.js, Bun, backend development, or mobile CI/CD experience with EAS or Fastlane.
- Reanimated, Gesture Handler, and advanced React Native animation experience.
- Geospatial, aviation, ADS-B, drone, or real-time location experience.
- Defense, law enforcement, regulated-environment, German-language, or open-source React Native and Expo experience.
- Practical experience with AI coding agents and modern AI-assisted development.
