TL;DR
Computer Vision & AI Engineer (Autonomous Systems): Building low-latency perception and AI pipelines for autonomous Counter-UAS interceptor flight with an accent on small-object detection, sensor fusion, embedded inference, and visual navigation. Focus on optimizing camera processing for NVIDIA Jetson, developing GPS-denied navigation and precision landing capabilities, and taking algorithms from research prototypes to flight-test-ready software.
Location: On-site in Wessling, Bavaria, Germany
Company
is a European deep-tech company developing integrated hardware, software, and AI-powered unmanned systems for air, land, and maritime operations.
What you will do
- Develop the perception stack for autonomous Counter-UAS interceptor platforms, transforming camera data into actionable outputs for autonomous flight.
- Build and optimize low-latency camera pipelines, including CSI interfaces, buffering, synchronization, raw image access, and latency reduction.
- Develop small-object detection, object tracking, motion-aware vision, and sensor-fusion algorithms for moving and rotating camera systems.
- Optimize embedded perception and inference pipelines for NVIDIA Jetson, targeting high frame rates of up to 100–300 FPS where technically feasible.
- Develop visual odometry, GPS-denied navigation, 3D direction-vector estimation, and visual support for precision landing.
- Build data pipelines from onboard recordings through cloud storage, annotation, dataset generation, training, validation, benchmarking, and flight-test deployment, while collaborating with autonomy, flight control, embedded, test, and systems engineering teams.
Requirements
- Master’s degree or PhD in computer vision, AI, robotics, machine learning, electrical engineering, computer science, aerospace engineering, or a comparable technical field.
- Strong knowledge of computer vision fundamentals, camera geometry, feature detection, object detection, tracking, calibration, and image-space to 3D transformations.
- Practical experience implementing computer vision or machine learning pipelines in Python and C++.
- Experience with embedded inference and related technologies such as NVIDIA Jetson, CUDA, TensorRT, ONNX, GStreamer, or V4L2.
- Understanding of latency, throughput, profiling, memory movement, real-time constraints, dataset workflows, metrics, and benchmarking.
- Ability to take ownership of a technical area and develop it from a research prototype to flight-test-ready software.
Nice to have
- Experience with UAV perception, robotics perception, visual odometry, SLAM, sensor fusion, or tracking systems.
- Experience with IMU-camera fusion, ego-motion compensation, rolling-shutter effects, or high-frame-rate cameras.
- Experience with precision landing, visual navigation, GPS-denied navigation, or cloud-based ML training and validation pipelines.
- Publications, thesis work, GitHub projects, demonstrations, or competition results in computer vision, robotics, AI, or autonomous systems.
Culture & Benefits
- Fast-paced, agile environment focused on next-generation defence innovation.
- Flexible, trust-based working hours and a company pension scheme.
- Mobile work option of one flexible remote day per week.
- Fitness subsidy, bike leasing, corporate discounts, sponsored daily lunch budget, and employee events.
- Company shuttle service from Laim in Munich to the Wessling location.
Hiring process
- Submit a cover letter with detailed hands-on project descriptions, including photos, GitHub links, videos, or drawings.
