Senior Machine Learning Engineer (Biometrics & Face Recognition)

Location: Tampere, Finland. Flexible office, hybrid, or home working is available, with remote-work support across Switzerland, Finland, Poland, the UK, Italy, and Germany. Candidates must be eligible to work in the hiring location.

What you will do

• Design, train, and evaluate models for face detection, face recognition, and 1:1 face matching against ID document portraits.
• Support liveness and presentation attack detection against spoofs, replays, and deepfakes.
• Define quality metrics, benchmarks, and test sets for high-assurance and regulatory requirements.
• Own data collection and labelling strategy, prototyping, training, evaluation, debugging, and model integration.
• Optimize models for on-device inference using quantization, pruning, and mobile runtimes in collaboration with C++ engineers.
• Track biometrics and face anti-spoofing research, guide product direction, and mentor engineers on machine learning practices.

Requirements

• 5+ years of machine learning engineering experience with production models shipped to real users.
• Hands-on experience with biometrics, including face recognition, face verification, liveness, or presentation attack detection.
• Fluency in Python and at least one deep learning framework, preferably PyTorch.
• Strong understanding of FAR/FRR, demographic bias and fairness, and adversarial robustness in security-sensitive systems.
• Experience collaborating across product, C++, and QA disciplines and communicating clearly.
• Eligibility to work in the hiring location is required.

Nice to have

• Knowledge of ISO/IEC 30107, NIST FRTE/FATE, or iBeta testing.
• Experience deploying models on mobile or edge platforms, including TFLite, ONNX Runtime, or Core ML.
• Working knowledge of C++.
