Associate or Senior Editor (Materials Science): Handling and evaluating research manuscripts for Nature Materials, commissioning and editing scientific content, and shaping journal strategy with an accent on materials science, peer review, and research communication. Focus on assessing novelty and impact across metallic, inorganic, and 2D materials, making editorial decisions, and collaborating with scientists and editors worldwide.
Location: Hybrid working model in Shanghai, Beijing, Milan or Pune
Salary for Milan, Italy: Associate Editor minimum €41,500; Senior Editor minimum €55,000.

What you will do
- Handle original research manuscripts, assess submissions and oversee peer review.
- Make editorial decisions based on expert advice and evaluate scientific novelty, context and implications.
- Commission, edit and write Reviews, Perspectives, News & Views, Comments and Editorials.
- Contribute to content development, journal strategy and publishing workflows for Nature Materials and Nature Portfolio.
- Collaborate with editors across Nature journals and experts in the international scientific community.
- Attend conferences and visit research institutions.
Requirements
- PhD or equivalent qualification in materials science or a related discipline.
- Thorough understanding of recent developments and trends in materials science.
- Ability to assess research from different areas of materials science, including its novelty, context and implications.
- Excellent written and spoken English; fluent English is required.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, broad scientific interests and willingness to travel internationally.
- Editorial experience is not required, but it may support consideration for the Senior Editor position.
