Research Program Manager (AI)

Location: San Francisco, on-site

Salary: $175,000–$191,000 annually, plus equity and bonus opportunities

What you will do

• Run academic and industry collaborations, including fellowships, grants, and joint research projects, from scoping through delivery.
• Coordinate benchmark releases end to end and maintain release cadence.
• Maintain leaderboards and benchmark sites, verifying results before publication.
• Track research projects, identify resourcing gaps and technical bottlenecks, and recommend changes to scope or timelines.
• Coordinate expert pools for upcoming benchmarks, including capacity planning and contributor logistics.
• Write launch briefs, partner updates, planning documents, and status memos that communicate technical results clearly.

Requirements

• 1–3+ years of experience in research operations, technical program management, or a similar role in a research or engineering organization.
• Technical background in computer science, machine learning, statistics, or a related field, with working Python and SQL.
• Experience evaluating a product, agent, or foundation model, including interpreting results tables and identifying unreliable results.
• Excellent written and verbal communication for working with researchers, engineers, executives, academics, and external partners.
• Experience running cross-functional programs involving external partners, contractors, or collaborators.
• Comfort working with ambiguity and building lightweight processes from scratch.

Nice to have

• Graduate degree or research experience in a technical field.
• Contribution to a benchmark, dataset, or evaluation project.
• Familiarity with public leaderboards, open research communities, expert pools, annotator operations, or human-data work.
• Experience with fellowships, grants, academic collaborations, lightweight dashboards, or small tools built with AI assistants.
