Senior Software Engineer - Data Acquisition

Location: San Mateo, California, United States. Office-based roles require onsite presence Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, with optional presence on Monday and Friday.

Salary: $196,750–$243,290 USD annual base pay.

What you will do

• Build a service that acquires datasets from external sources, processes them into consistent formats, and stores them for foundation models.
• Architect and deliver a high-performance analytics environment serving thousands of queries daily.
• Design scalable data infrastructure for data retrieval and visualization.
• Ensure data systems are reliable, observable, privacy-compliant, and performant.
• Develop intelligent agentic automation and internal tools that improve analytical workflows and developer productivity.
• Lead technical direction, mentor junior engineers, and own projects throughout their full lifecycle.

Requirements

• 5+ years of experience building production-grade, scalable, and reliable data systems.
• Bachelor’s degree equivalent in computer science or sufficient professional experience.
• Knowledge of AWS infrastructure, including VPC, endpoints, PrivateLink, Terraform, and Amazon EKS.
• Experience with Kubernetes ingress, load balancers, and VPC networking.
• Understanding of Trino and Spark system configuration, strong SQL, and distributed engines.
• Experience with Python and notebook data tools such as pandas and ibis, plus strong cross-functional collaboration skills.
