Senior Mechanical Design Engineer (AUV)

What you will do

• Lead mechanical design and full-lifecycle architecture for subsea components, assemblies, and AUV platforms.
• Design pressure vessels, hydrodynamic fairings, structural chassis, propulsion systems, propellers, and payload integrations.
• Create and maintain CAD models, detailed drawings, GD&T, and tolerance stack-ups based on engineering analysis.
• Lead structural, hydrostatic pressure, thermal, propulsion, battery packaging, and hydrodynamic analysis.
• Plan and oversee prototyping, test protocols, hardware evaluation, and validation in high-pressure, thermal, and in-water environments.
• Mentor mechanical engineers and collaborate with electrical, software, systems, and manufacturing teams to deliver reliable, manufacturable hardware.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field; a Master’s degree or PhD is preferred.
• 5–8 years of mechanical engineering experience with a strong focus on design analysis.
• Strong CAD proficiency, preferably SolidWorks, including 3D modeling, assemblies, and detailed drawings.
• Experience with static and dynamic seal design, hydrostatic pressure systems, pressure housings, and pressure-critical component analysis.
• Experience sizing subsea or marine propulsion systems and designing and analyzing propellers.
• Strong knowledge of materials, mechanics, manufacturing processes, and engineering analysis methods such as FEA and CFD.

Nice to have

• Experience with ANSYS Workbench or similar analysis tools.
• Experience designing and building composite parts.
• Master’s degree or PhD in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
