IT Desktop Engineer (Co-Op/Intern)

Location: Ottawa, Ontario, Canada — onsite

Pay range: $24–35 CAD per hour

What you will do

• Diagnose and troubleshoot employee desktop, laptop, network, and remote-access issues.
• Support the availability and performance of IT systems, hardware, services, and operational processes.
• Install and maintain server and storage hardware onsite.
• Manage incidents and service requests in the ticketing system while meeting SLA targets.
• Coordinate with leadership, global IT teams, local stakeholders, and business teams on resolutions, projects, testing, and technology initiatives.
• Develop documentation, standard operating procedures, customer service guidelines, and user support resources.

Requirements

• Currently enrolled in a recognized Canadian post-secondary institution and pursuing a bachelor's, master's, or PhD in Computer Systems Technician or a related field.
• Advanced Windows desktop expertise and experience supporting Windows Server environments.
• Experience supporting server infrastructure, Microsoft 365, Active Directory and/or Microsoft Entra ID.
• Knowledge of VMware virtualization, DNS, DHCP, TCP/IP, Wi-Fi, VPN, and basic network troubleshooting.
• Strong English communication skills, analytical troubleshooting ability, clear documentation, and effective cross-team collaboration.
• Eligibility to complete a background check is required.

Nice to have

• Experience supporting Red Hat or CentOS Linux, macOS, mobile devices, cloud platforms, web servers, enterprise networks, backup and restore technologies, or infrastructure services such as SMTP, FTP, SFTP, and SSH.
• Experience automating manual tasks and working with additional virtualization technologies.
