Senior Legal Counsel (Privacy)

Location: Hybrid role based in Porto, Portugal

What you will do

• Design and develop comprehensive privacy frameworks aligned with applicable regulations, business processes, and technology.
• Advise business and technology teams on data protection queries, policies, procedures, and risk mitigation.
• Support global compliance projects covering data protection laws, regulations, guidance, and enforcement developments.
• Draft, review, and negotiate data protection clauses in commercial agreements, covering controller and processor positions.
• Embed Privacy by Design into product launches and technology initiatives while assessing new projects and providers.
• Audit and improve the privacy program, including targeted training for Marketing, Engineering, and People teams.

Requirements

• Qualified lawyer with approximately 8 years of post-qualification experience.
• Experience spanning top-tier private practice and significant in-house legal work.
• Professional experience in data protection law, preferably within retail, e-commerce, or technology.
• Practical knowledge of EU, UK, and US data protection regulations and relevant regulatory authorities.
• Excellent written and spoken English required.

Nice to have

• CIPP or CIPM certification.
• Master’s degree in Privacy, Data Protection, Law, or a related field.
