Lead AI Scientist

Location: Hybrid role based in Boston, Massachusetts, United States, with occasional work at the Boston facility. Travel of up to 10% domestically and internationally may be required.

Annual salary: $175,000–$200,000, plus eligibility for bonus or incentive pay.

What you will do

• Identify and investigate emerging AI methods for high-value scientific, operational, and commercial challenges.
• Design rigorous experiments, benchmarks, and evaluation approaches to clarify model capabilities, limitations, and risks.
• Develop and test modelling, reasoning, retrieval, and agentic approaches with AI and software engineers.
• Translate research findings into recommendations, reusable methods, and production-minded prototypes.
• Communicate complex scientific concepts to technical and business audiences and mentor colleagues in advanced AI practices.

Requirements

• Master’s degree required; PhD preferred in artificial intelligence, data science, machine learning, computer science, mathematics, physics, or a related discipline.
• Candidates without a PhD should have approximately five years of experience after completing a master’s degree; PhD work may satisfy the experience expectation.
• Strong expertise in machine learning, generative AI, statistical methods, and experimental design.
• Hands-on proficiency with Python, modern AI frameworks, evaluation methods, and relevant cloud or compute environments.
• Strong scientific judgement, intellectual curiosity, evidence-based reasoning, and communication skills across research, engineering, and business audiences.
• Previous senior or lead-level experience is expected; the role is hands-on and has no direct reports.

Nice to have

• Applied AI research or advanced model-development experience.
• Experience designing model, agent, or system evaluation frameworks.
• Experience transferring research innovations into enterprise products or production solutions.
