Litigation Counsel - EMEA

Location: Barcelona, Spain; hybrid position requiring at least three days per week on-site. Candidates must have the right to live and work in Barcelona.

What you will do

• Lead EMEA litigation and dispute strategy from threatened claims and early case assessment through proceedings, trial, appeal, settlement, and implementation.
• Manage a broad portfolio covering commercial, contractual, intellectual property, competition, consumer, privacy, employment, securities, and regulatory matters.
• Direct or support internal and government investigations, regulatory inquiries, enforcement matters, dawn raids, and compulsory information requests.
• Coordinate cross-border matters with regional and country counsel, legal specialists, business leaders, and outside counsel.
• Direct external legal teams, set strategy and budgets, evaluate advice, and ensure efficient representation.
• Manage matter budgets, forecasts, settlement economics, reserves, disclosures, factual development, and evidence preservation.

Requirements

• Law degree and professional qualification to practice law in a relevant jurisdiction.
• At least five years of post-qualification experience handling litigation and investigations.
• Experience leading litigation strategy and complex matters through contested proceedings, hearings, trial, appeal, or settlement.
• Experience managing matters across EMEA jurisdictions and coordinating local counsel and internal stakeholders.
• Strong analytical, written advocacy, negotiation, communication, and independent judgment skills.
• Excellent written and spoken English; right to live and work in Barcelona required.

Nice to have

• In-house experience with a global technology or multinational company.
• Experience with intellectual property, licensing, patent, competition, government investigation, regulatory enforcement, or complex cross-border matters.
• Familiarity with litigation reserves, disclosure processes, electronic discovery, and legal matter management systems.
• Proficiency in additional European languages.
