Senior Platform Engineer – Azure Data Platforms & DevOps

Location: Richmond, Virginia, United States; hybrid schedule required with in-office days Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday during core hours of 9am–5pm EST.

Salary: $96,700–$145,000 annually, plus eligibility for a performance-based bonus incentive.

What you will do

• Design, administer, and support Azure Databricks, Unity Catalog, Confluent Kafka, Azure Data Factory, Azure DevOps, GitLab, and shared enterprise data platform services.
• Develop reusable Terraform modules, platform blueprints, policy controls, environment provisioning, configuration management, and automated deployment solutions.
• Build and improve CI/CD and DevSecOps automation using GitLab, Azure DevOps, Terraform, Git workflows, automated testing, and deployment orchestration.
• Implement platform governance, identity integration, RBAC, PIM, secrets management, network security, data protection, environment segregation, and compliance controls.
• Operate streaming and event-driven platforms, including Kafka cluster administration, topic lifecycle management, schema governance, monitoring, and security.
• Develop observability, alerting, SLA reporting, cost management, incident response, disaster recovery, documentation, and operational runbooks.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience with approximately five years of experience, or a master’s degree with approximately three years of experience.
• Strong enterprise-scale experience with Terraform, Infrastructure-as-Code, reusable modules, state management, policy controls, and infrastructure lifecycle management.
• Deep experience with GitLab and Azure DevOps, including source control, merge requests, CI/CD pipelines, deployment automation, release management, and security scanning.
• Strong Microsoft Azure experience, including administration and support of enterprise cloud platforms and Azure Databricks environments.
• Experience with Databricks governance, Unity Catalog, cluster policies, identity integration, networking, security, and operational support, plus Confluent Kafka or Apache Kafka platform operations.
• Strong troubleshooting, analytical, communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills across distributed enterprise environments.

Nice to have

• Experience with Azure Data Factory, Fivetran, Kubernetes, AI/ML platforms, FinOps, or regulated financial services.
• Azure, Databricks, Confluent Kafka, Terraform, GitLab, Azure DevOps, Kubernetes, or cloud certifications.
