Lead Data Scientist (AI)

Location: Hybrid; based in Washington, D.C. or willing to relocate there. US citizenship required.

What you will do

• Lead, manage, and grow the data science team, including objectives, performance, development, and hiring.
• Define and deliver data collections that support compliance models, heuristics, and platform capabilities.
• Own model governance, including inventories, tiering, validation, testing evidence, monitoring, drift management, and remediation.
• Frame ambiguous research questions, run experiments, and recommend data science priorities to Intelligence leadership, the Chief Scientist, Product, and Engineering.
• Stay hands-on by writing and reviewing code, making technical method decisions, and improving the reliability and throughput of core outputs.
• Set standards for responsible AI use, verification, and collaboration across Intelligence, Research, Engineering, and Product.

Requirements

• US citizenship and residence in Washington, D.C., or willingness to relocate there.
• Experience managing data scientists or machine learning engineers, including performance management and career development.
• Experience hiring technical team members and defining hiring standards.
• Hands-on data science and machine learning expertise with strong Python and SQL skills and experience analyzing large behavioral or transactional datasets.
• Experience with a cloud data lake, Spark or Databricks, and AWS.
• Demonstrated ability to turn ambiguous questions into delivered datasets, models, or capabilities, with clear communication to technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Nice to have

• Experience with agentic systems, LLM agents, autonomous transaction flows, payments, fraud, or risk data science.
• Blockchain or on-chain data experience, including clustering, attribution, heuristics, anomaly detection, mempool analysis, or privacy-preserving systems.
• Experience building large datasets from scratch, growing teams, or working in regulated environments with model risk management frameworks.
• PhD, equivalent research training, or published applied research.
