Manager of Applied AI Architecture, Startups

Location: San Francisco, CA or New York City, NY; hybrid policy requires staff to work from an office at least 25% of the time

Annual salary: $315,000–$380,000 USD OTE range

What you will do

• Lead, develop, and grow a team of Startups Applied AI Architects while setting standards for technical credibility, customer impact, and execution.
• Lead pre-sales engagements with strategic startup accounts from technical discovery through deployment and expansion.
• Build technical playbooks for evaluations, customer-specific evaluation frameworks, LLM solution architecture, and competitive technical assessments.
• Partner with Account Executives and go-to-market leadership to drive Claude API adoption across the startup ecosystem.
• Translate startup use cases, deployment patterns, and architectural insights into actionable feedback for Product and Engineering.
• Build Anthropic’s technical presence through events, conferences, workshops, and content while keeping the team current on AI engineering practices.

Requirements

• 8+ years of experience in technical customer-facing roles and 5+ years leading pre-sales or technical go-to-market teams.
• Experience building and developing high-performing Solutions Architect teams through hiring, coaching, and technical development.
• Deep experience working with startups or high-growth technology companies.
• Hands-on experience building and deploying LLM-powered applications, including context engineering, LLM evaluation frameworks, and modern AI architectures.
• Comfort with Python and LLM frameworks, tools, and integration patterns used in startup engineering stacks.
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent education, training, and experience in a relevant field.

Nice to have

• Experience as a technical founder or in a founder-led sales motion.
• Experience winning competitive technical evaluations against other LLM providers.
• Experience building hiring frameworks, onboarding programs, technical playbooks, and coaching systems from the ground up.
• Familiarity with developer infrastructure procurement from seed through Series B and beyond.
• Technical visibility through conference talks, written content, or open-source contributions.
