Principal Software Engineer (C/Rust)

Location: Remote-first within the country of hire; compensation and employment scope are specified for all U.S. locations. Headquarters: Herndon, United States.

Salary: $152,000–$183,000 per year.

What you will do

• Extend and evolve a high-performance, fault-tolerant pricing engine supporting new airline retailing use cases.
• Shape platform architecture and lead key technical decisions across the pricing platform.
• Solve complex distributed systems, scalability, reliability, and large-scale data processing challenges.
• Build across the stack, including low-level system interactions, distributed algorithms, and APIs.
• Optimize latency and operating cost using zero-copy data paths, lock-free data structures, and replication strategies.
• Collaborate with engineers, product partners, and stakeholders to shape airline pricing and distribution technology.

Requirements

• Expert-level systems programming experience with C and Rust.
• Deep knowledge of Linux systems, performance, and resource management.
• Production experience building and operating fault-tolerant distributed systems at scale.
• Strong understanding of complex algorithms, data structures, systems design, and performance engineering.
• Scientific, evidence-based approach to ambiguous technical problems and strong ownership of product outcomes.
• Excellent written communication and collaboration skills in a distributed, asynchronous team; experience using AI-assisted development tools thoughtfully.

Nice to have

• Experience with Go or Python.
• Experience in airline pricing, distribution, or hirify.global data.
• Background building high-throughput, low-latency data platforms.
