Team Lead Payroll (m/f/d) (European Payroll)

Location: Hybrid, office-first work model; the role owns European payroll operations with Germany as the operational anchor.

What you will do

• Own end-to-end preliminary payroll processes across Europe, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and compliance.
• Lead the German payroll team with responsibility for hiring, development, performance, and day-to-day operations.
• Provide functional payroll leadership to People Operations Managers across European markets.
• Manage payroll audits, complex income tax and social security cases, and compliance frameworks.
• Evaluate and optimize external payroll providers and consultancies.
• Digitalize payroll processes, improve HRIS integrations, and automate manual workflows using automation and AI-driven approaches.

Requirements

• Substantial payroll management experience in a fast-paced, international environment.
• Deep hands-on knowledge of German payroll, including income tax and social security.
• Experience coordinating payroll across multiple European countries.
• Proven disciplinary team leadership experience and the ability to influence decentralized teams.
• Strong communication skills for explaining complex payroll topics to Finance, Legal, Compliance, and senior leadership.
• Fluent English and German, with an interest in automation and AI applications for payroll.
