HPC Technical Consultant, Onsite (LANL) Los Alamos, NM (HPC)

Location: Onsite daily in Los Alamos, New Mexico, five days per week; additional onsite on-call support is required. This is not a remote position.

Base salary: USD 81,500–187,500 annually in New Mexico, plus possible variable incentives.

What you will do

• Monitor and maintain the health of large-scale HPC compute, networking, and storage infrastructure.
• Troubleshoot and repair server and supporting-system hardware, including replacing drives, memory, power supplies, and other components.
• Perform basic Linux administration, log analysis, monitoring, and system troubleshooting.
• Create, manage, and close support tickets while documenting repairs, parts, returns, processes, and workflows.
• Support system installations, expansions, rack work, cabling, and component location using technical documentation and diagrams.
• Participate in an on-call schedule supporting 24x7 operations and collaborate through email, Teams, Slack, and in-person communication.

Requirements

• US citizenship is required, and the ability to obtain a Q Clearance is required.
• Must work onsite in Los Alamos, NM, five days per week, with additional onsite on-call support.
• Strong mechanical aptitude, comfort using hand and low-power tools, and the ability to lift up to 50 pounds individually or 75 pounds with assistance.
• Solid knowledge of server hardware, drives, memory, power supplies, cabling, peripherals, Windows, macOS, and standard productivity tools.
• Preferred experience includes Linux administration, Bash or Python scripting, Redfish/IPMI, server hardware maintenance, HPC networking, storage systems, Git, and ticketing systems.
• Experience in 24x7 production support and systematic troubleshooting of complex hardware, software, and network issues is preferred.

Nice to have

• Associate’s degree, college coursework, technical training, or a bachelor’s degree.
• Experience with Ethernet, HPE Slingshot, InfiniBand, parallel file systems, SAN/NAS, object storage, or large-scale AI infrastructure.
• CompTIA Linux+, Security+, Server+, A+, Network+, or ITIL Foundation certification.
