Staff Engineer (Ingeniero Staff) - Remote First

Location: Bogota D.C., Colombia; Mexico City, Mexico; or Sao Paulo, Brazil. Hybrid work combines office, customer, and home time, with additional office presence expected during ramp-up or when requested by the leader.

What you will do

• Drive cross-team architecture for APIs, data models, event flows, reliability patterns, and shared platforms.
• Write production code, author meaningful pull requests, and lead design reviews, RFCs, pairing, and architecture reviews.
• Set engineering standards for code quality, testing, observability, secure design, and operability.
• Partner with Engineering Directors, Pod Leads, and Product on technical strategy, sequencing, technical debt, and platform investments.
• Mentor Senior and Mid engineers through design reviews, deep pairing, and technical hiring input.
• Lead or co-lead high-severity incident response and drive durable remediation.

Requirements

• 8+ years of professional software engineering experience, including substantial Senior or Lead individual-contributor work on complex systems.
• Deep expertise in backend Java with Spring or Spring Boot, microservices, scalable system design, databases, event-driven architecture, REST APIs, AWS, and containers; or production React and TypeScript at scale.
• Ability to reason across the full stack, from data models and APIs to user interfaces.
• Experience designing for high availability, security, and operability in production.
• Strong testing practices across unit, integration, and contract testing, plus familiarity with CI/CD and GitHub Actions.
• Strong English is required. Clear communication, cross-team influence without formal authority, product thinking, and mentorship skills are expected.

• Experience with financial applications, payments, or regulated Latin American markets.
• Prior Staff, Principal, or equivalent organization-wide technical leadership experience.
• Platform, developer-experience, or AI-assisted engineering workflow investments.
• Deep AWS experience with EKS, RDS, or MSK, or experience improving security posture.
• Spanish or experience collaborating across Latin America.
