Acoustic Engineer-Research (Intelligent Audio)

Location: Hybrid role requiring on-site work at the Northridge, California, USA office; travel up to 10% domestically and internationally.

Salary: $97,500–$143,000 per year, with potential additional compensation such as bonuses or commissions.

What you will do

• Advance acoustic research from business-relevant questions through modeling, prototyping, validation, and technology transfer.
• Design, build, test, and tune acoustic systems and signal-processing algorithms for different devices and listening environments.
• Create repeatable simulation, measurement, critical-listening, and evaluation methods.
• Combine acoustics, signal processing, machine learning, data-driven analysis, and human perception with Audio ML and Perceptual Audio colleagues.
• Develop reference implementations with engineering and UX teams and support product adoption.
• Use AI-assisted tools to accelerate experimentation, coding, testing, analysis, and documentation; communicate results and mentor colleagues.

Requirements

• Degree in acoustics, electrical or mechanical engineering, physics, computer science, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• At least five years of relevant acoustic research or engineering experience.
• Strong knowledge of acoustics, signal processing, acoustic systems design, measurement, psychoacoustics, and critical listening.
• Experience taking research ideas through modeling, prototyping, reproducible evaluation, and product integration or a product-ready demonstration.
• Practical fluency with Python, MATLAB, or equivalent tools for acoustic modeling, measurement, analysis, and automation.
• Willingness to work on site in Northridge, California, and complete a background investigation and drug screen after receiving an offer.

Nice to have

• Experience with headphones, loudspeakers, microphones, transducers, active noise control, beamforming, or adaptive signal processing.
• Experience with real-time audio systems and hardware, software, latency, compute, and power trade-offs.
• Experience correlating instrumented acoustic measurements with perceptual results and product experience.
• Working knowledge of audio machine learning methods and evaluation data pipelines.
• Experience with physical prototyping, 3D CAD, rapid fabrication, acoustic test fixtures, patents, publications, standards work, or shipped audio technologies.
