Senior Machine Learning Engineer (AI)

Location: Sunnyvale, California, United States

Annual salary: $143,000–$286,000, plus performance-based bonuses and possible stock compensation.

What you will do

• Design, develop, and deploy scalable machine learning models and services for eCommerce search.
• Build query and intent understanding, autocomplete, retrieval, and multi-phase ranking capabilities using NLP and deep learning.
• Develop and maintain data pipelines, APIs, feature pipelines, model components, and search infrastructure.
• Apply MLOps practices including CI/CD, model versioning, monitoring, drift detection, and automated retraining.
• Optimize high-throughput, low-latency distributed services for scalability, fault tolerance, and concurrency.
• Run A/B experiments, evaluate model and business performance, participate in architecture discussions, and mentor engineers.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in a relevant computer science or engineering field plus 3 years of related experience, or 5 years of experience in software engineering, machine learning engineering, AI systems, or a related area.
• Experience designing, developing, and deploying machine learning models with TensorFlow, PyTorch, or Scikit-learn.
• Strong programming skills in Python, SQL, Java, C++, or R, with experience writing production-ready code.
• Experience with MLOps, model evaluation, validation, feature engineering, monitoring, and automated retraining.
• Knowledge of secure and compliant AI engineering, data pipeline development, and collaboration across technical and product teams.
• Ability to mentor engineers and contribute to scalable, maintainable system architecture.

Nice to have

• Master’s degree in computer science, computer engineering, software engineering, or a related field.
• Experience with large language models and GPU optimization.
• Experience with accessibility best practices, WCAG 2.2 AA, assistive technologies, and inclusive digital experiences.
