Systems Engineer 3 (Watch Desk) - Jira/Confluence/Rancher/Redis/NiFi/Docker/Kubernetes/AWS/Nagios/Prometheus

Location: San Antonio, Texas, United States. Onsite watch desk role in a 24×7 environment.

Annual salary: $130,000–$270,000, depending on years of experience.

What you will do

• Monitor system health, availability, performance, operating systems, applications, networks, and data pipelines.
• Investigate alerts and incidents, troubleshoot complex issues, perform authorized recovery actions, and escalate unresolved problems.
• Interpret system graphs, generate concise status updates, and provide effective shift handoffs.
• Maintain Jira tickets, shift logs, standard operating procedures, metrics, and customer reports using disparate data sources.
• Lead small teams of watch desk shift personnel and provide meaningful guidance to teammates.
• Maintain schedules and operate independently in a 24×7 watch desk environment.

Requirements

• Must currently hold a Top Secret/SCI U.S. Government security clearance with a favorable polygraph and be a U.S. citizen.
• Twenty years of systems engineering experience on programs and contracts of similar scope, type, and complexity.
• Experience planning and leading systems engineering efforts.
• Bachelor’s degree in systems engineering, computer science, information systems, engineering science, engineering management, or a related discipline; five additional years of systems engineering experience may substitute for the degree.
• Linux and command-line proficiency, with experience troubleshooting hardware, software, networks, and data flows.
• Security+ certification or willingness to obtain it within six months; experience with Jira, Confluence, Rancher, Elasticsearch, Redis, NiFi, Docker, Kubernetes, AWS, virtualization, Nagios, Grafana, and Prometheus.
