Senior Engineering Manager, Benefits (Java/Spring Boot)

What you will do

• Own the technical direction, delivery, and reliability of the Benefits domain.
• Lead, mentor, and develop a team of four backend engineers, with plans to grow the team to five or six engineers by Q4.
• Drive the Benefits roadmap and deliver new products and employee benefits across European markets.
• Own API contracts, SLAs, documentation, service reliability, observability, and quality standards.
• Collaborate with Product Managers, Staff Engineers, Principal Engineers, Quality Engineers, and DevOps Engineers on scalable architecture.
• Recruit engineers, conduct code and design reviews, and promote CI/CD, automation, and AI-assisted development using tools such as Copilot, Cursor, and Claude.

Requirements

• 5+ years of hands-on software engineering experience with a strong backend background.
• 2–3+ years of experience leading backend or platform engineering teams.
• Strong technical experience with Java, Spring Boot, and microservices architecture.
• Practical experience with AWS, Kubernetes, Kafka, PostgreSQL, service reliability, observability, and API governance.
• Experience hiring, developing, and retaining engineering talent while maintaining a high hiring bar.
• Fluent English, written and spoken. A bachelor's degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field is required.
