Data QA Lead (Data Engineering)

What you will do

• Own QA for an enterprise data warehouse delivery team from backlog refinement through release.
• Define acceptance criteria and test designs using a shift-left, test-driven approach.
• Plan QA effort, estimate work, manage sprint capacity, and lead assigned QA engineers.
• Design and execute data validation, source-to-target, integration, regression, and post-production checks across SSIS, dbt, Fivetran, Python ingestion, and Databricks pipelines.
• Manage defects in Azure DevOps, track quality metrics, and communicate risks and release readiness to business and US stakeholders.
• Lead root cause analysis, maintain test assets and runbooks, and coordinate knowledge transfer and coverage during transitions.

Requirements

• 6+ years of QA testing experience, including 3+ years in data engineering or data warehousing and 2+ years leading or coordinating testers.
• Strong SQL skills for data validation, reconciliation, and profiling, plus working Python skills for test scripting.
• Hands-on experience testing ETL/ELT pipelines built with SSIS, dbt, Fivetran, or Python-based ingestion.
• Experience with test planning, estimation, risk-based coverage, agile sprints, defect management, and Azure DevOps or equivalent tools.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, independence, and a consistent record of meeting delivery commitments.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Computer Engineering, or a related field.

Nice to have

• Experience with Databricks, PySpark, Delta Lake, Unity Catalog, Databricks Workflows/Jobs, or other Big Data/Spark platforms.
• Experience with data test automation frameworks such as pytest, Great Expectations, or dbt tests and CI/CD quality gates.
• Experience testing Tableau or other BI reporting layers.
• ISTQB certification or banking and financial services experience.
