Staff Platform Engineer (AI)

Location: Tokyo, Japan; hybrid working with in-person collaboration in the office and remote work. The role provides local coverage during normal Japan working hours and is part of a follow-the-sun support model with teams in the UK and US.

What you will do

• Build, operate, and improve cloud infrastructure, CI/CD pipelines, and build systems, primarily in Azure.
• Develop Infrastructure-as-Code, automation, and developer tooling using technologies such as Terraform and Ansible.
• Operate and scale build agents, runners, artifact storage, distributed execution, caching, and containerized workloads.
• Implement observability, monitor system health, and troubleshoot infrastructure, build, deployment, and pipeline issues.
• Optimize cloud platforms for performance, reliability, security, and cost efficiency.
• Support engineering teams across Japan, the UK, and the US through incident response, root cause analysis, and developer support.

Requirements

• 8 years of experience in DevOps, cloud infrastructure, CI/CD, build engineering, developer infrastructure, or related engineering roles.
• Experience with a cloud platform such as Azure, AWS, or GCP.
• Experience with Infrastructure-as-Code tools, CI/CD platforms, build tooling, networking, cloud architecture, system reliability, and secure access controls.
• Experience with Linux, Git, and shell scripting.
• Strong troubleshooting, problem-solving, and communication skills.
• Ability to provide local coverage during normal Japan working hours and work in the Tokyo hybrid setup.

Nice to have

• Experience with Bazel, Buildkite, or similar build systems.
• Experience operating CI/CD infrastructure at scale, including distributed execution, caching, and artifact management.
• Experience with Docker, Kubernetes, Prometheus, Grafana, ELK, or other observability and container technologies.
• Knowledge of software supply-chain security, secure build practices, and cloud security.
• Experience supporting large multi-language codebases or distributed systems and improving cloud cost efficiency.

Hiring process
