Machine Shop Manager (Aerospace)

Location: Houston, Texas, United States. United States citizenship is required for this security-sensitive position.

Texas A&M Engineering supports aerospace, robotics, space systems research, testing, training, and workforce development through the Texas A&M University Space Institute.

What you will do

• Lead daily operations of the machine shop and fabrication laboratory.
• Direct production of specialized components, custom parts, prototypes, and complex builds.
• Consult with tenants, researchers, engineers, and staff on project feasibility, materials, manufacturing methods, estimates, and timelines.
• Maintain CNC mills, lathes, welding systems, precision instruments, materials, tools, and supplies.
• Supervise machine shop personnel and provide hands-on technical instruction and mentorship.
• Establish safety, quality, operating, and training standards while developing shop capabilities for aerospace and robotics initiatives.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in an applicable field or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• At least six years of related experience.
• United States citizenship is required because the position is security sensitive.
• Ability to work hands-on with machining, fabrication, equipment operation, and material handling.
• Ability to supervise personnel, train equipment users, and ensure compliance with safety and regulatory requirements.

Nice to have

• Degree in engineering, manufacturing, machining, or a related field.
• Experience with CNC machining, fabrication equipment, precision tools, CAD/CAM, GD&T, and precision measurement systems.
• Experience managing machine shops, laboratories, prototype development, robotics, aerospace, or research environments.
• Experience supporting multi-user or shared laboratory and shop environments.
