Senior Engineering Manager (AI)

Location: Australia — any city. The work model prioritizes in-person collaboration.

What you will do

• Lead a team of 5–10 engineers through day-to-day execution, mentoring, performance management, hiring, and development.
• Translate the Chief Architect’s vision into shipped, production-ready code while making tactical implementation decisions within architectural guardrails.
• Lead complex code reviews, pair on debugging, identify risks early, and maintain engineering quality standards.
• Partner with the Technical Project Manager on sprint planning, estimation, capacity planning, and delivery tracking.
• Drive reliability across uptime, performance, security, observability, incident response, and post-mortems.
• Collaborate with architects, lead engineers, and project management to maintain technical direction and operational readiness.

Requirements

• 8+ years of software engineering experience and 3+ years leading engineering teams in production environments.
• Strong knowledge of microservices, cloud-native design patterns, API-first development, Python, GraphQL, REST APIs, SQL, and modern development toolchains.
• Experience with CI/CD, Docker, Kubernetes, infrastructure as code, and DevSecOps practices.
• Production experience with AWS or comparable cloud infrastructure, ideally in a multi-tenant SaaS environment.
• Experience with agile delivery, sprint planning, estimation, capacity planning, Jira or equivalent tools, code reviews, and engineering quality practices.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or equivalent practical experience, with strong written and verbal communication skills.

Nice to have

• Experience leading small-to-mid-sized engineering teams in fast-paced environments.
• Background building enterprise SaaS platforms or developer-facing products.
• Experience with Kubernetes, service mesh such as Istio, and federated GraphQL.
• Exposure to AI/ML platforms, agentic workflows, or LLM-based product features.
• Experience leading distributed or remote engineering teams, with familiarity with observability, monitoring, SRE practices, and incident response.
