Principal Software Engineer (AI/ML)

Location: Onsite at the J Street Offices, Bentonville, Arkansas, United States

Salary: $110,000–$220,000 annual base salary, plus performance-based bonuses and potential stock compensation.

What you will do

• Lead platform engineering initiatives delivering scalable, cloud-native infrastructure and reusable tooling.
• Write production-quality code, build automated tests, and drive implementations through production deployment.
• Manage the full software development lifecycle with a focus on high availability, fault tolerance, observability, and real-time data processing.
• Architect and integrate AI/ML-enhanced applications and intelligent systems supporting millions of users.
• Provide technical leadership and mentorship while guiding architectural decisions and engineering excellence.
• Collaborate with Product, Business, Operations, Supply Chain, Transportation, and other stakeholders to translate business needs into measurable outcomes.

Requirements

• Strong coding skills and experience delivering production-quality software.
• Extensive experience leading platform engineering and building scalable, cloud-native architectures with reusable infrastructure.
• Experience with software development lifecycle management, including CI/CD, testing, observability, and incident response.
• Strong background integrating AI/ML and building intelligent systems with Python, Java, and C++.
• Bachelor’s degree in a relevant computer science or engineering field plus 5 years of software engineering experience, or 7 years of relevant experience.
• Strong technical leadership, mentorship, architectural decision-making, problem-solving, requirements analysis, and cross-functional communication skills.

Nice to have

• Master’s degree in computer science, computer engineering, computer information systems, software engineering, or a related field.
• Experience implementing WCAG 2.2 AA standards, using assistive technologies, and applying digital accessibility best practices.
