Research Associate in Electromagnetic Non-Destructive Evaluation and Inspection (Electromagnetic Sensors and Real-Time Systems): Developing and validating electromagnetic sensors, sensor arrays, interface electronics, data acquisition systems, and real-time software for non-destructive evaluation with an accent on electromagnetic theory, hardware prototyping, and industrial research. Focus on modelling coil configurations, implementing acquisition and control algorithms, improving firmware, and supporting the development of commercial inspection systems.

Location: Oxford Road, Manchester, United Kingdom. Applicants must demonstrate the right to work in the UK.

The hirify.global leads the EPSRC-funded FENDER programme in collaboration with four other universities and approximately 25 industrial partners to advance electromagnetic non-destructive evaluation.

What you will do

  • Model and optimise electromagnetic sensors and coil configurations.
  • Design, prototype, and validate electromagnetic sensors and arrays for defect and material inspection.
  • Develop sensor-interface electronics, multi-channel data acquisition, hardware, firmware, and real-time processing systems.
  • Develop real-time acquisition, processing, and control software and support sensor-array data acquisition.
  • Work with research colleagues and commercialisation partners to develop inspection systems into commercial products.

Requirements

  • Possess or be about to obtain a PhD in a relevant STEM discipline, or have equivalent industrial research experience.
  • Demonstrated experience applying electromagnetic theory to engineering applications.
  • Record of publications in leading academic journals and ability to write scientific reports and research papers.
  • Ability to present research findings at national and international meetings and conferences.
  • Excellent oral and written scientific communication skills.
  • Right to work in the UK is required; Skilled Worker visa sponsorship is not available.
