Senior Member of Technical Staff (Distributed Storage)

Location: Seattle, United States; hybrid with 3 days per week in-office at the downtown headquarters

Annual base pay: USD $200,000–$300,000, plus pre-IPO stock options.

What you will do

• Design and build distributed storage components across the file system and block layer using C and Rust.
• Develop fault-tolerant, erasure-coded, and distributed data paths beneath the file system.
• Take system designs from initial concepts through production code and release.
• Debug interactions across protocols, file systems, caches, networks, and object stores.
• Identify correctness bugs that emerge under real-world conditions and improve system quality.
• Prototype new capabilities, including federated namespaces, coherent search indexes, and data delivery to GPU clusters.

Requirements

• 6+ years of systems software development experience, including work on file systems, kernels, database engines, compilers, drivers, or distributed data paths.
• Strong programming experience in C, C++, or Rust.
• Professional experience with distributed systems, including concurrency, consistency, failure handling, and recovery.
• Daily use of AI coding tools with the judgment to review, direct, and validate generated code.
• Ability to investigate root causes and work effectively in unfamiliar codebases.
• Must be authorized to work in the United States; visa sponsorship or transfer is not available.

Nice to have

• Experience with distributed file systems, NFS, SMB, or S3.
• Experience with platforms such as NetApp, PowerScale, Isilon, VAST, WEKA, Ceph, or Lustre.
• Background in indexing, query, or search internals.
• Public open-source contributions, technical writing, or a self-built systems project.
