TL;DR
Principal Data Scientist (Neuromonitoring): Developing signal-processing and machine-learning systems that transform raw optical interference signals into continuous measurements of cerebral blood flow, intracranial pressure, and autoregulation with an accent on physiological modelling, uncertainty estimation, calibration, and clinical validation. Focus on deriving performance bounds from instrument and noise models, designing evaluation methods without established gold standards, and taking algorithms from research through validated production implementations.

Location: London, UK; on-site at least four days per week from the Kings Cross offices, with one flexible work-from-home day

Salary: £114K–£190K, plus equity

Company

hirify.global develops non-invasive neuromonitoring technology for clinical brain monitoring, combining photonics, physiology, and applied machine learning to improve the diagnosis and treatment of brain disorders.

What you will do

  • Provide technical authority for the end-to-end signal-processing and inference chain, from raw optical data to clinical measurements.
  • Set methodological direction for estimation, signal extraction, machine-learning modelling, evaluation, and evidence requirements.
  • Lead signal-processing and analysis programmes from research through validated, production-quality implementations with Software Engineering.
  • Derive performance bounds from instrument and noise models to guide algorithm selection, requirements, and design trade-offs.
  • Own uncertainty, calibration, cross-device comparability, reproducibility, experiment design, dataset governance, and ground-truth definitions.
  • Review technical reports, analysis plans, and evaluation methodologies; mentor data scientists and contribute to publications, patents, IP, and regulatory documents.

Requirements

  • 15+ years of experience in data science, machine learning, or applied research, with independent technical leadership on complex problems.
  • Experience extracting small signals from noisy physiological systems and developing physical models of those systems.
  • Deep expertise in physiological time-series signal processing.
  • Ability to take algorithmic research from concept to validated, production-quality implementations in shipped products.
  • Experience designing device-performance evaluations without an established gold standard, including physical-system simulation, sensitivity analysis, failure-mode identification, and signal-processing solutions.
  • Strong scientific output through publications, patents, or equivalent original technical contributions; experience with calibration, noise models, error budgets, and experimental-data evaluation.

Nice to have

  • Background in neuroscience, neuromonitoring, or cerebrovascular physiology.
  • Optical signal-processing experience, such as LiDAR, pulse oximetry, NIRS, or laser Doppler flowmetry.
  • Experience in a regulated industry, including medical devices, diagnostics, or pharma, with familiarity with software-as-a-medical-device algorithm validation and documentation.

Culture & Benefits

  • All team members work at least four days per week from the Kings Cross offices, with one flexible work-from-home day.
  • Company equity plan, salary-sacrifice pension, private medical, dental and vision insurance, and group life assurance at four times annual income.
  • Unlimited holiday allowance plus bank holidays, and one week of remote working per quarter.
  • Mental health support with unlimited access to one-to-one sessions with trained professionals.
  • Daily lunch vouchers, free dinners when working late, fresh fruit, snacks, drinks, and access to Udemy for professional development.
  • AI is a core part of the working culture, with an expectation that team members use it effectively in daily work.

Hiring process

  • Interviews may be recorded using Granola for note-taking; transcripts are not saved to shared drives or stored externally.
