GPU Physical Design Engineer Intern (Semiconductor)

Location: San Jose, Costa Rica; hybrid work model with on-site and off-site work

What you will do

• Support physical design implementation for high-performance SoC designs, including placement, routing, and optimization.
• Perform design rule checks (DRC) and layout versus schematic (LVS) validation.
• Analyze and resolve timing, power, and area challenges with cross-functional engineering teams.
• Contribute to design methodologies and automation tools.
• Support hardware teams with simulation, validation, and debugging of design features.

Requirements

• Pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
• 0–1 years of hands-on physical design experience gained through internships, academic projects, coursework, or training.
• Advanced experience with physical design EDA tools such as Cadence, Synopsys, or similar platforms.
• Knowledge of semiconductor design principles, timing, power optimization, and layout techniques.
• Intermediate to advanced English proficiency is required.
• Unrestricted, permanent right to work in Costa Rica is required.

Nice to have

• Familiarity with Python or Perl for design automation.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work effectively in a collaborative engineering environment.
